my yoga journey

I discovered yoga in 2012 after an injury disrupted my usual exercise routine. I found immediate relief through the practice, as its diverse poses safely stretched and strengthened my muscles. Within just a few months, I regained my full physical capacity. The benefits were so profound that continuing my practice was a no-brainer.

Over time, yoga became more than a physical practice for me. It unlocked incredible mental health benefits through slowing down, breathwork, meditation, and the discovery of sankalpa (intention setting). As a struggling addict, these tools helped me reclaim a sense of self-love through ahimsa (non-harming).

I became a regular at studios across Chattanooga and beyond, and within a year, I began my 200-hour teacher training with The Chattanooga Yoga School under the guidance of Madia Swicord and Jessica Ewart.

Since leading my first class in September 2013, I’ve taught over 1,000 group and private sessions for students of varying abilities, ages, and life experiences. I’ve shared yoga in studios, retreat centers, offices, festivals, museums, social clubs, city parks, farms, private residences, and beyond.

I specialize in yin and a slow, vinyasa-inspired style with a focus on breathwork and svadhyaya (self-study). My sessions are intentional, methodical, and mindful. For private and small group classes, I offer relaxing, hands-on assists (with consent) to help deepen your practice.

I’m committed to making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of physical ability, experience, age, or financial situation. Let’s connect and explore a practice that could change your life.

“"I was a very anti-yoga person when I first met Jimmy. I had a handful of bad experiences with yoga- feeling uncomfortable because I didn’t know any poses or their names, the temperature was too hot in the studio, or the instructor just gave me weird vibes. I was certain yoga wasn’t for me. However, after meeting Jimmy and being invited to his yoga classes at Common House, I can no longer fathom not having his class as a weekly treat to my health and wellness.  I felt so comfortable with his instructions and care when taking his class. He balances (pun intended) pushing you to find your “7/10” point in both stretching and strength, as well as giving your body time to recover from the modern stresses we all must endure. I find both my mind and my body humming with relief and happiness after each session. I’ve come so far in terms of increasing my flexibility, finding some semblance of balance, and calming my mind for an hour every Wednesday."

“Jimmy was one of my first in-real-life yoga teachers when I started exploring the practice. He made yoga so approachable, welcoming and fun! I looked forward to every class. It’s now become a lifelong passion. For a beginner, yoga can feel intimidating and scary, so I will never forget that he was one of the first teachers that made it accessible and inviting. His teaching style exudes “a come as you are” vibe. And I’m really grateful for that, because yoga has played a part in changing my life for the better.”

“From the moment you step into Jimmy's class, you're enveloped in a warm embrace of genuine hospitality. It's as if he's been waiting for your arrival, and you instantly feel like you belong there. There's an undeniable sincerity in his eyes, a kindness that radiates from his heart, and a smile that reassures you that you're exactly where you need to be.

In his classes, I've found not just yoga but a sanctuary of the spirit and where the heart finds its rhythm in the poetry of movement. He had this extraordinary ability to touch lives, to make us believe in the magic of the present moment, and to guide us toward a better version of ourselves.

Jimmy, you are more than a yoga teacher; you are a beacon of light in our lives. Your classes are not just an hour of yoga; they are an hour of transformation, an hour of belonging, and an hour of pure love.

Thank you, Jimmy, for being the magical yoga wizard that you are. You have changed my life for the better, and for that, I am eternally grateful.”
